To expand the knowledge of science and to offer facilities to study science to the students of economically and educationally backward vast Baksa area, the science stream was introduced in Barama College in 1992. The subject Zoology was introduced from the starting of the science stream in Barama College with a single faculty member headed by Mr. Biswajit Kalita on 26th Aug 1992. After 3 year in 1995 degree course was introduced. In the year 2000 the stream was affiliated under GU and in 04/05/2000 got part to Govt. Concurrence. Mr. Anup Kumar Dey was appointed as the second man of the department in 1996, but he left the college in 1997 to join in Karimganj College. After his departure Mr. Jayanta Kumar Das was appointed as lecturer. In 1998 major course was introduced in the department and Dr. Abul Faiz was appointed as lecturer. Mr. Dhrubajyoti Talukdar was appointed in the dept. as lecturer in 2006 and surved for a period but due to intervention of G.B he could not continue his service. After a long gap in 2013 science stream of Barama College got provincialized. At present Zoology dept. is functioning with 3 faculty members. But at the peak period college authority provides a part time faculty. Moreover Zoology dept. has a single lab bearer Mr. Chakradhar Baro. He was appointed in 1992. With the limited facilities the dept. is trying its best to give service with a good team spirit.
